Final Fantasy XIV Starts Open Beta September 1st, Releases Trailer

Posted on August 31, 2010 by Morgan Chase

It wasn’t too long ago, five months to be exact, that FFXIV entered into its alpha testing stage. Now, diehard FFXIV fans from all over the world are about to take part in the open beta test.

The full tweet in the official FFXIV account said, “The FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test begins on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at 2:00 (GMT)! We hope to see everyone participate!”

Just so you know, FFXIV is bringing in a new class system that allows you to change classes by simply switching weapons. Start preparing by making sure you have enough FFXIV gil to spend on your character’s items, gear, and crafting materials.

In other news, a sneak peek at Final Fantasy XIV’s prerelease trailer is out! Watching that may make you want to grab a copy of the game right away but you still have to wait a few more weeks. The standard PC version is due for release on September 30 while the Collector’s edition is set on the 22nd. March 2011 is the date for the Playstation 3 release.

Meanwhile, the FFXIV open beta client is now available for download. Get a jumpstart on the much-anticipated game by launching your FFXIV client and downloading the “patch”.

ETA: This just in!  The open beta test has been postponed, according to a new announcement made by Square Enix. Critical bugs appeared to be the cause of the delay.
